CEED Syllabus

CEED does not publish a rigid syllabus in the way a school board does. Instead, the brochure lists broad ability areas. The outline below collects those areas with common sub-topics. Use it as a checklist, not a guarantee.

Part A – objective

Visualisation and spatial ability

  • Rotation and reflection of 2D and 3D forms
  • Paper folding and cutting, cross-sections, nets of solids
  • Isometric and orthographic interpretation

Observation and design sensitivity

  • Spotting differences, patterns, and anomalies
  • Understanding materials, form, and function of everyday objects

Environmental and social awareness

  • Sustainability, ecology, and resource use
  • History, culture, geography, and current affairs relevant to design

Analytical and logical reasoning

  • Series, coding, syllogisms, direction and arrangement puzzles
  • Data interpretation and basic numerical ability

Language and creativity

  • Reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary
  • Idea generation and lateral thinking

Design and art history

  • Major movements: Arts and Crafts, Bauhaus, Ulm, modernism, post-modernism
  • Landmark products, designers, and studios – Indian and global
  • The founding and role of NID and the design ecosystem in India

Part B – drawing and design aptitude

  • Freehand drawing with correct proportion, perspective, and shading
  • Sketching from imagination and memory
  • Problem identification and concept sketching
  • Visual storytelling in a single composition
  • Form and colour studies, layout, and typography sense
